In every housecat beats the heart of a wild beast. You can see the tiger's eyes shining through as this feline waits for her prey to pass within reach. A bug, a leaf or imaginary foe, she'll tackle it swiftly before ducking down in the grass to begin the game again.

Once upon a time they were kept by the pharaohs of Egypt. Also depicted in their art, this ancient breed, which lies somewhere between ducks and geese, has a unique beauty that is undeniable. The were imported to England in the 1700's and no one seems to be quite sure how they ended up in the US (most likely imported as ornamentals for pond settings) but small pockets of them are living in Texas for sure and right on my lake.

Massive spiraling horns on this Aoudad Ram give it an unmistakeable majesty. A native of North Africa, they have made themselves quite at home in the West Texas desert. This one, though, is a resident of Fossil Rim Wildlife Park and will greet you, hoping for a snack, as you drive by.

The zebra holds a special place in my heart. It is the mascot of those with rare illnesses–the medical zebras of the world. I recently illustrated a children's book for the Immune Deficiency Foundation and photographed the zebras at Fossil Rim Wildlife Park in Glen Rose, Texas. This painting was done using some of that source material as reference.

I have the pleasure of living on the water and watching our resident Canada Geese year-round. Each Spring we look forward to new goslings obediently following their parents traversing the water in their a neat rows. Such a joy to watch. They always bring a smile to my face.

Who says it's a "bird" feeder? This little guy has no reservations dining for one at this prime location. Although I intended to feed the birds around my home, I ended up watching the quirky antics of three squirrels who quickly found, emptied and even disassembled a bird feeder. Might as well make the best of it, so this guy ended up in a painting.
